World & Story

A broken sky, and the tale of guarding everything left beneath it.

PROLOGUE

In this city, a barrier shines where stars should be — the aurora barrier, Neon Sky. A hundred years of peace sleep beneath it.

But tonight, the barrier’s light — wavered.

…The new pilot? Sorry to do this on your first day — briefing happens in flight.

Bolt

Your rig’s ready. Get in. — First lesson: how to graze.

The sirens wail. Your first flight begins.

THE WORLD

The Aurora Barrier, Neon Sky

The Aurora Barrier, Neon Sky

A century ago, an aurora barrier wrapped the city's night sky. People called that light the Neon Sky — the last roof, holding back the dark and the things beyond it.

In a sky without stars, the barrier stood in their place. A hundred years of peace slept beneath its light — and people believed it would last forever.

The Dimensional Rift

The Dimensional Rift

On the day the rift tore the barrier, machine legions poured through from beyond. The sky fell, and all that remained were the pilots who chose to guard what lay beneath it.

That night, the barrier's light wavered first. When the void legion poured through the torn seam, a hundred years of peace ended in a single night.

Graze — Grow Stronger by Skimming Danger

Graze — Grow Stronger by Skimming Danger

The pilots of this world do not flee. The closer they skim past enemy fire, the more their cores resonate and grow stronger. A power that shines the nearer it comes to danger — that is the Graze.

It is the first thing every new pilot learns — “First lesson: how to graze.” Those who flee grow weaker; those who dive in grow stronger. That is the rule of this sky.

Neon That Has Burned for a Century

Neon That Has Burned for a Century

Beneath the barrier lies a city whose neon has never gone dark in a hundred years. People still live there, and the wingmates guard those lights. What they protect is not the barrier, but everything left beneath it.

Beneath the barrier's roots lies a sunken city whose neon has burned for a century. Guardian machines watch over lights with no owner, and beneath it all, something very old sleeps.

STORY — 3 ARCS, 10 CHAPTERS

Origin Arc · Chapters I–V

Origin Arc · Chapters I–V

Hold the enemy pouring to earth (EARTHFALL), rise beyond the rift into space (ASCENSION), cross the edge of the void (INCURSION) and the enemy's dimension (DOMINION) — and reach GENESIS, the origin of it all.

I · EARTHFALL

The rift tore open. The aurora barrier — Neon Sky — is rent, and the void legion pours over the city.

II · ASCENSION

Past the atmosphere, into the sea of stars — ascending to find the source beyond the rift.

III · INCURSION

Remnants that never slept stir again in the rift’s wreckage. We chase the source into the void frontier.

IV · DOMINION

The enemy’s dimension. A living hive and black citadel glare at the intruders.

V · GENESIS

The genesis singularity. A vast machine that weaves both stars and void shines ahead.

Echoes Arc · Chapters VI–VII

Echoes Arc · Chapters VI–VII

In the barrier that swallowed GENESIS, a century of echoing memory floods back. The barrier's veil (AFTERGLOW) and a requiem asleep in its roots (UNDERTOW) — the light they long guarded finds a voice of its own.

VI · AFTERGLOW

The Void was over — and the city finally slept in quiet. But within the barrier’s afterglow, battles long finished began to play again.

VII · UNDERTOW

I am Aurora. The thing you call your sky — I am the heart of that barrier.

Daybreak Arc · Chapters VIII–X

Daybreak Arc · Chapters VIII–X

Descend past the roots (DESCENT), cross the sunken city whose neon never died in a century (NETHERGLOW), close the first wound — and greet the first morning in a hundred years (DAYBREAK).

VIII · DESCENT

…I can hear it. Beneath the roots — a very old breathing. Now that the requiem has ended, the sound below is rising.

IX · NETHERGLOW

The sunken city was still alive — its masterless neon burning for a hundred years, guardian machines patrolling the empty streets.

X · DAYBREAK

There it is — the first wound, where every rift began. The wound I could only press down upon for a hundred years, never heal.
